According to the data of Chocolate, Biscuits and Confectionery of Europe (CAOBISCO), the total biscuit production in the EU, Sweden and Japan was 4,463 ,000 tons in 2011. The number indicates a decrease by 2,7% from the previous year, and an increase by 1% in the 5-year period from 2006 to 2011.

In 2011, the biggest manufacturer among EU countries was Germany with 731,000 tons. It was followed by Italy with 655,000 tons, the UK with 562,000 tons, Spain with 447 tons, and France with 404 tons. In the same period, the manufacture in Switzerland was 47,000 tons, while the production in Japan increased to 242,000 tons.

According to 2015 data of ValueNotes, India, one of the major biscuit manufacturers in the world, increased its production by 5,9% from 2005 to 2013. 2010, India manufactured 1,8 million tons of biscuits, and further increased this number to 1,9 million tons in 2011, and to 2 million tons in 2012. In 2013, the biscuit production in India was recorded at 2,1 million tons. The biscuit production was almost doubled in the last decade.

GLOBAL BISCUIT CONSUMPTION
According to the report dated November 2015 issued by MarketLine Industry Profile, global biscuit consumption increased by 3,5% from 2010 to 2014, reaching 11, 798 million tons. The source of this increase in biscuit consumption is mainly Asian countries. However, the expectations for biscuit consumption in Europe do not tend to increase. The reason for this is the financial contraction.

According to 2014 data of Euromonitor, Western Europe is one of the areas with the highest sugar biscuit consumption in the world. It is followed by Eastern Europe, North America and Latin America. According to data of CAOBISCO, the biscuit consumption in the EU was 3,9113,000 ton in 2009, and it increased to 4,120,000 tons in 2010. Biscuit consumption fell back to 4 million tons in 2011 and 2012, and then went up again to 4,128,000 tons in 2013. The amount of biscuits consumed in 2012 was recorded at 4,084,000 tons.

The highest consumption rate in the EU is in Italy with 641,000 tons and Germany with 638,000 tons. Italy and Germany are followed by France with 578,000 tons, and the UK with 525,000 tons. In the EU countries, where biscuit consumption is high, the average consumption per capita was 7,74 kg in 2011, 7,78 kg in 212, and 7,95 kg in 2013. Per capita consumption was 7,84 kg in 2014. The top four countries in per capita consumption are Ireland with 16,63 kg, the Netherlands with 16,16 kg, Belgium with 11,96 kg and Italy with 10,56 kg. These countries are followed by Bulgaria, Spain, France, Slovakia, Denmark, Slovenia and Croatia with consumption rates varying from 8 to 10 kg.

GLOBAL BISCUIT MARKET

The European Union countries which are leading the global biscuit production are also the leading exporters globally. The global sweet biscuit exports fell in 2009 from the previous year by 7% to approximately 5,4 billion USD. In 2011, in increased by 21% from the previous year, to approximately 6,8 billion USD. In 2010, the leading exporter was Germany, with an export share of 12,2% with 660 million USD, followed by Belgium with 10,1%, the Netherlands with 8,5%, the UK with 6,3% and France with 6%. In 2011, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and Canada were among the top exporters in the world. On value basis, these countries managed approximately 40% of the total global biscuit exports in the world.

GLOBAL BISCUIT IMPORTS
Global biscuit imports were decreased by 9% to approximately 5,4 billion USD in 2009, and the leading markets were the US, France, Germany, the UK and Belgium. The total import share of these 5 countries was 41%.

The leading importer of biscuits is the US with an approximate import of 767 million USD and an import share of 14,1%. The US is followed by France with 9,7%, Germany with 6,8%, the UK with 5,8%, and Belgium with 4,8%.

Global biscuit imports increased by 18% to approximately 6,8 billion USD in 2011, and the leading markets were the US, France, Germany, the UK and Belgium again. The total import share of these 5 countries is was 38% in 2011.
