PACKAGING AND STORING IN BAKERY, PASTA, AND BISCUIT FACILITIES

Regarded as a silent vendor for companies, the packaging has continued to be an inseparable part of our life. As people have limited time for eating, drinking, and shopping because of the intensive pace of work, they prefer packaged products for easy use and carry. Consumption of packaged product has been higher in the developing countries compared to underdeveloped countries. Package protects the products from physical impacts such as crash, wetting, and damage and enables the product to be delivered to the customer in the most economical way and provides easy storage. Another important duty of the packaging is that it provides information to provide easiness for the customer to select and use. Information such as weight, price, production date, expiration date, content, producer, and usage, which were printed on the package, provides great convenience for consumer and seller. However, since the package has been used in a rough way around the world, this reality caused environmental problems.

The packaging is the dress of a product. Regardless of how good your products are, it would be difficult to sell your product without a nice cloth. The packaging has become increasingly important in the marketing of agriculture, food products, and other non-food product, particularly export goods. The packaging enables the product to reach the consumer in the most economical way and creates storage convenience. An important task of the package is to provide easiness to select and use with information printed on it.

The packaging sector which was started in the professional sense about one hundred fifty years ago by Bosch Packaging has been growing faster. The volume of packaging machinery sector has reached to USD 40 billion in 2016; it is predicted that the sector will grow 6.6 percent on average until 2023, and the volume will reach to USD 62 billion.

The food and beverage sector accounts for 63 percent of the USD 40 billion global machinery packaging sector while the medicine sector accounts for 12.9 percent. In other words, USD 25 billion of packaging machinery production is about the food and beverage sector. Germany has the largest share of this massive packaging machinery sector. Germany is well ahead of others, dominating one-third of the industry by itself. In this sector, Germany carries 50 percent of its exports to European countries.

Asian and African countries with rapidly increasing population are regarded as markets that can be developed for the sector. The packaging machinery sector has grown by 18 percent in the Asian market in 2017 while the sector has doubled its growth in the last 10 years at African countries. Indian and American markets are also promising for the sector.

According to researches, the world population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050. Together with this increase, the demand for processed and packaged food is expected to increase more. This growth makes the food packaging machinery industry a promising market. Thus, it is expected that there will be growth in packaging, processing equipment, and packaging material.

Over the last few years, local and national governments around the world have been developing strategies to deal with the growing problems of packaging waste. Some of this proposed legislation will have broad implications, especially for manufacturers of plastic and paper-based packaging and for the packaging industry. These policies can be a ripple effect on the whole global industry. Globally, a growing number of countries have been introducing legislation and policies to reduce, discourage, or prohibit the use of certain packaging materials. Not only developed countries but many developing countries in Africa and Asia are also involved in this tendency. We know that in the near future, bans will enter into force to reduce the use of bags in markets. Packing legislation realized in one country has the potential to affect the entire packaging value chain on a global scale in a negative or positive way. Restrictive policies and regulations can have a wide and even undesirable impact on the packaging supply chain.
